What Is Wabi AI, Really?
Wabi AI is a personal AI assistant designed to be used with other people — not just by yourself. It works like a messaging app: you keep separate threads for different topics and goals (health, family, a trip, a shared project), and inside each thread the assistant can build mini-apps on the fly — a weight tracker, a kids'-events finder, a voting poll, a trip itinerary — instead of only replying with text.
How Wabi is different from a normal chatbot
- Many threads, not one endless chat. Each topic keeps its own context, so yesterday's grocery list doesn't bury today's travel plan.
- Multiplayer by design. Threads can be shared as group chats. Everyone in the thread can ask Wabi things and use the mini-apps it builds.
- It builds software, not just answers. Wabi calls this “personal software”: small, disposable apps generated from a conversation, which you can also pin to your phone's home screen as widgets.
- Proactive help. Connect your email and Wabi automatically sets up starter threads and apps; connect a calendar and it can keep plans moving in the background.
Who created Wabi?
Wabi was founded by Eugenia Kuyda. A former culture journalist in Moscow, she founded the conversational-AI startup Luka, created a memorial chatbot that evolved into Replika (launched in 2016, one of the best-known AI companion apps), and left Replika in 2025 to build Wabi. The company behind the app is Wabi, Inc., backed by a $20 million pre-seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), announced on November 5, 2025.
A short history
- 2025 — the first Wabi. The original product let you create mini-apps by describing them in text and share them with friends.
- September 28, 2026 — Wabi 2.0, invite-only. A relaunch as a personal AI messenger: now the agent decides which apps to build for you, and threads became multiplayer.
- October 19, 2026 — public launch. Wabi 2.0 opened to everyone on iOS, Android and Mac, free, with no waitlist.
Is Wabi free?
Yes — for now. At launch, Wabi is completely free to download and use. The company has openly said it hasn't settled on a business model yet, so pricing may appear later. We track changes on the updates page.
“Wabi 2.0” or “Wabi 3.0”? The version confusion, cleared up
The product generation is called Wabi 2.0 — that's how the company and all launch coverage describe it. But if you open the App Store you'll see version numbers like 3.0.5: the iOS app's build numbering simply runs on a different track (the September 28, 2026 update was iOS version 3.0.0; Android is at 2.0.0). Same product — don't let the numbers confuse you, and be wary of any site selling a separate “Wabi 3.0” product.
What Wabi can and can't do (as of October 2026)
| Wabi can | Wabi can't (yet) |
|---|---|
| Run shared group chats with an AI inside | Run on Windows — no Windows app announced |
| Build mini-apps, polls, trackers and itineraries in chat | Work offline — it runs in the cloud |
| Book appointments, handle returns, track refunds, cancel subscriptions (per its store listing) | Replace a human for anything that goes wrong with those errands |
| Read Health Connect data on Android (optional, read-only) and summarise steps, sleep, heart rate | Provide medical diagnosis or treatment — it says so itself |
| Act proactively from email, calendar and other connections you grant | Access anything you haven't connected — connections are your choice |
